Building Stronger Women from the Inside Out

Self-Empowerment and Preservation Workshop

Columbus, OH- Self-preservation is the instinct to act in your best interest, and protect yourself to ensure your survival.

This workshop was focused on tapping into those instincts and power, to keep you safe mentally and physically, not only against partner abuse but any type of physical and sexual assault. By way of instruction, demonstration, and training, from the Columbus Division of Police, participants learned the fundamentals to physically protect themselves and their family.

October 22, 2015

This past week, I hosted a workshop at the Columbus Division of Police Academy to encourage and empower women to tap into their own power. As a survivor of emotional and physical abuse, I know all-to-well, just how paramount knowing our own power is to our safety and well-being. Had I known how to protect myself internally and externally, my path may have been very different. The knowledge learned as a result of my journey with domestic abuse, inspired me to share it with the intention to save others. This workshop consisted of a learning portion as well as a physical hands-on instruction from trained tactical instructors from the Columbus Division of Police.

At the end of this workshop, participants walked away with:

  1. Recognizing the value of committed self-reflection, knowing our worth, being secure in our insecurities and trusting instincts.

  2. Motivation to discover opportunities in our experiences for growth and empowerment.

  3. Fundamentals to self-defend one's self from a physical assault

  4. Knowledge of the Franklin County Court and Domestic Violence unit's process and resources available.

Future classes are being planned for the first quarter of 2016, to receive information about this workshop and other events. Many thanks to the Columbus Division of Police and all of the other people that committed their time and efforts to being of service to others and saving lives!
